With sadness I remember our beloved friend and former Town Supervisor Jack Lombardi who passed away eight years ago today.
Jack served as Town of North Castle Supervisor for an unprecedented and unequaled 44 consecutive years, winning twenty-two two-year terms. So respected and admired was Jack's leadership that often he was unchallenged and cross-endorsed for reelection.
Even when the Town Board was a majority of the other party, Jack was able to bring compromise and consensus to Town Board decisions and a spirit of respect, harmony and accomplishment prevailed.
Under Jack’s stewardship the Town attracted and retained two IBM Headquarters, Swiss Re, MBIA, re-routing of I-684 to avoid bisecting Armonk, avoiding location of a major postal shipping facility in Town that would have paralyzed traffic in the area, and many other notable ratables and achievements that benefitted tax rates and residents generally.
Also should be remembered are all of the parklands and open space acquired or preserved under Jack’s leadership including Cranberry Park in North White Plains, Whippoorwill Park, Wampus Brook Park, IBM Community Park, and Lombardi Park in Armonk, and Cat Rocks park in Banksville, just to name a few.
Jack is remembered with great affection and missed by all of us who knew him, and we hope that reflecting on his leadership and style will inspire us to work hard to emulate his excellent example.
